New Program Offsets Risks of ‘Do-It-Yourself’ Gestational Surrogacy
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CHICAGO (May 26, 2009) – Alternative Reproductive Resources (ARR)
today announced a new program geared to help intended parents avoid some of the
pitfalls of “do-it-yourself” gestational surrogacy.
Through its Surrogate
Management Services, the Chicago egg donation and surrogate recruitment agency
will provide the due diligence that is key to a successful surrogacy relationship,
and that intended parents are not likely to be equipped to handle on their own.
“We’re seeing more intended parents finding their own gestational
surrogates as they seek a solution to building families when financing is tight
or unavailable in the current economy,” said Robin von Halle, president
of ARR.
“But the surrogacy relationship can be a tough one in any circumstance – and
there are too many tragic stories of those who have gone it alone. Our aim is
to help them offset this risk.”
ARR’s program manages all the necessary details to a successful outcome.
These include meeting with both parties to explain the process and issues and
concerns, like selective reduction. It will gather and review (by a healthcare
professional) the prospective surrogate’s obstetric record for physical
qualifications, and oversee a psychological evaluation for emotional readiness.
ARR will also conduct a background check of the candidate.
Additionally, the agency will manage the setup of an escrow account for the surrogate’s
payments through an independent, insured escrow agent. To ensure the arrangement
is legally secure, ARR will refer clients to and liaise with an attorney who
specializes in adoption and reproduction technology law.
“Intended parents’ desire to take control of this process is understandable,” said
von Halle. “But they are not likely to have the knowledge or the contacts
to manage a successful process once a likely surrogate has been found. We can
help them navigate this route successfully.”
ARR’s Surrogate Management Services are available for a one-time fee that’s
less than half of what agencies typically charge for the entire process.
