Jennifer
Brooklyn, New York
When Jennifer was a senior at the University of Chicago, she learned
that her birth was made possible through her parents’ use of a
sperm donation. This discovery inspired her to choose to help infertile
couples have a baby. After using another agency for her first donation,
Jennifer decided to use Alternative Reproductive Resources (ARR)
in Chicago for her second donation. ARR’s staff worked with Jennifer
to coordinate her medical appointments and egg extraction, overcoming
the distance challenge, given her New York residency. Littlefield
is currently on the waiting list to donate again with ARR, and
credits its team with keeping her comfortable throughout the process.
“Mary Ellen McLaughlin, the partner who works with donors like
me, did a terrific job of putting me at ease,” Jennifer recalls.
“I feel like I can call her anytime.”
Rachel
Chicago, Illinois
Rachel was inspired to donate after a friend’s sister experienced
a successful pregnancy after receiving an egg donation. ARR was
recommended by an acquaintance, and after discussing the situation
with her husband, Rachel made her first egg donation in 2006.
“My husband was a little hesitant at first, but once he met our
friend’s little girl, he realized what an amazing gift it would
be,” she said. Since then, Rachel has donated two more times,
and is on the waiting list to make her final donation before
she begins to focus on starting her own family.
Rachel
Calumet City, Illinois
Rachel, a nursing student and assistant, had heard about egg
donation but never considered it until she talked to a friend
who donated. After listening to her friend describe the experience,
Rachel became interested in learning more. She met with ARR and
decided to donate. In addition to the compensation, which she
is using to help pay for school, Rachel gets satisfaction knowing
that someone might become a parent because of her. She is planning
to donate again, and even encourages friends to become egg donors.
